Basically, all kinds of yoga asanas can be included into the Hatha family but the westernized concept of Hatha has transformed it into more of a generic term. This form of yoga is also known to be suitable for people across all ages and for pregnant women who are advised to stay away from extreme physical exertion. Bikram Yoga form is completely different from the Hatha. These constitute intense sessions which incorporate host of health benefits including weight loss. The sessions are mostly 90 minutes long with twenty six poses and two breathing exercises. The sessions are carried out in hot and humid rooms and cause excessive physical exertion and sweating. As a result, this form may not be suitable for those preferring light exercises or for the old. Similarly, people who are sensitive to heat strokes, dehydration, fatigueshould not opt for such intense sessions. Also, you are required to wear minimal clothes during these sessions because of the nature of the postures. Therefore, it is a physically demanding form which improves the inner functions of the body, relieves pains, helps in weight loss and also provides due assistance for personality management.
The differences between hatha and bikram yoga
- The Hatha form is gentle whereas Bikram yogic sessions are strenuous.
- Hatha Yoga can be practised by people of all ages whereas Bikram sessions are not for the aged or those who suffer from dehydration and heat stroke.
- Bikram Yoga postures are suitable for weight loss whereas Hatha is more of a relaxing session for the mind and body.
- Since one tends to sweat alot during Bikram Yoga sessions it is advised that one wears minimal clothing. On the other hand, however, there is no such requirement while doing Hatha Yoga.
