A boil is a painful infection of the hair follicle and the surrounding skin. It begins as a tender and a red lump. Eventually, it will grow and turn into a water-filled balloon or cyst. A boil usually needs to open and drain in order to heal. Home care can help clear up a single boil, also known as skin abscess. The boil size can range from a pea to a golf ball.
As much as you want to squeeze the boil, try not to. You must never squeeze a boil because if it is not drained properly, it could infect areas in the skin and cause more boils. They may appear on the face, neck, shoulders, buttocks and armpits. Many of the boils can be treated in the comfort of your homes by trying out certain remedies.
Tea Tree Oil
The antibacterial and antiseptic properties of tea tree oil help to treat bacterial infection causing the boil. But you have to be careful about applying it – it is not to be applied directly on the skin as it can have a burning sensation.
Mix a few drops of tea tree oil with a teaspoon of coconut oil. Put this solution on the affected areas twice or thrice a day. Do this regularly to get rid of the boil.
The queen of spices, turmeric is known for its antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, which helps in getting rid of the boil quickly. You can put it directly on the boil, or boil the powder in water or milk and drink it thrice regularly. To make a paste – mix turmeric with water and apply on the boil.
Castor oil is known for its antiseptic properties that work as a weapon against boils. Take 4 to 5 drops of the oil and put it on a cotton swab. You can apply it directly to the affected area and get relief from the pain instantly.
Neem has been used in Ayurveda for centuries now and its proven antibacterial agents can do wonders. A little bit can even help you get rid of neem oil in no time. Take around 10 leaves of neem and apply it directly on to the affected areas – wherever there is a boil. Do this twice or thrice a day to cure the problem of skin boils.
With its medicinal properties, garlic is highly praised in Ayurvedic texts. Various studies have found that garlic contains properties which can inhibit the growth of acne and boils. Garlic has allicin – a compound which has antibacterial and antioxidant properties. Take two garlic cloves, crush them and apply directly on the boil. Leave it for 10-15 minutes and wash it with water. You can also extract the juice and apply that on the affected areas. If you feel a weird sensation then wash it immediately.
